Today the day

Today is the day that I declare—I am a writer. Not a graphic and web designer with a writer trailing off at the end, so nobody hears. I AM A WRITER—hard stop.
I have always wanted to be a writer, though I denied it.
I learned Ancient Greek because I wanted to be a better poet, and Ezra Pound told me to.

Now now
pounding how,
pounding now,
pounding how now pound new.

This poem I wrote over 20 years ago is still streaming through my fingertips as if it were the first time I had touched form from the unformed consciousness.

In University in 2003, I was a poet with confidence, which I have since forgotten. I gathered information so that I could be the best poet. I wanted to meet a real poet, so I wrote an email to Robert Creeley, not expecting to get a response. But he responded within a day and agreed to do a work study with me. The one eyed poet met with me on Saturdays at Cafe Aroma, where we talked about HD Hilda Doolittle a high definition poet, wars, relationships and jazz. I walked up to Cafe Aroma in my tattered blue hoodie. I sat across from him, and he said, “I knew it was you by the walk.” For years i wondered if i had a poet’s walk. When you told me the answer in the first breath we exchanged. ‘It’s funny what you hear- here and there. Then and now.
