It’s been 20 years since Robert Creeley’s passing and almost 55 years since the historic protest of 1970, which led to both the University of Buffalo and Buffalo State closing their campuses before final exams. Recently, I have been researching the time between fall 1969 and summer 1970 in Buffalo, NY, gathering information for a piece I’m working on about a college student who went missing.
While searching through yearbooks from the Universities, I stumbled upon these pictures of Robert Creeley alongside an article written by the yearbook staff reflecting on the tumultuous time around them.
While sitting with Mr Creeley at Cafe Aroma on Saturday afternoons in 2003, I remember talking about various wars, shyness, jazz, and HD. He talked about this time period in 1970 and helping men get safely to Canada after the draft.
